March 3rd is Hinamatsuri in Japan, which is also known as Girl’s Day. It is Japanese custom to display figurine dolls on a red carpeted platform to celebrate young girls. There is also a festival celebrating young boys as well; it’s called Koi Nobori. Instead of displaying dolls, koi fish streamers are hung outside of homes. It’s celebrated on May 5th.
